| Day 17 Saturday 17 August " Nobel Prize for Vikings" Sweden - Stockholm Hi, Ive got the mad idea of going back to Oslo - just to see that security guard. Cos Im a bit depressed. Its Saturday night in Stockholm and Im not with a man. Im sorry but that is important to me. I need hugs & kisses. I know in a way I can do whatever I want in Europe for the next 6 weeks. Seeing polar bears, swimming maybe but money cant get you everything I havent had a decent conversation for days. I want that security guard - just to hold. Stadhuset / City Hall. I used my Stockholm card for the last time this morning on the 11am tour of the city hall - its where Nobel Prize banquets are held. Mr Nobel discovered Dynamite and theres six Nobel prizes. One (the peace one) is given in Norway. From there it was a guided tour so had to wear a sticker. Went outside and watched more hunky bodies dive into the sea - waited for a clock with moving animals to chime but it didnt Tower. Then up the tower for a fab view across town, lots of very windy steps. Boat to Birka. At 2pm got the tour boat to Birka - Viking Village. It was a bit of an anti climax. You pay on board and it took 1½ hours to get there. Once there - there was very little to see apart from bumps in the ground. Just like your average UK hill fort, ramparts with sheep grazing on it - beyond a flat field where the village was and beyond that - more graves. The museum had great Viking models and we all had to wear a red key chain around our necks to get on the tour free. The tour lasted an hour and was very informative about Viking ways. Basically they were travellers / plunderers and didnt often settle. Im sure Ive got a lot of Viking blood in me or I wouldntve come here. Well I do have a bit if red hair and the rest of our family. Anyway boat back, bit boring and cold so sat indoors and had a sandwich. I was jealous of a young english couple and two other people into archaeology. I was listening to their discussions & theories on vikings - thinking aaah conversations, ive forgottebn what they are. No NRJ Nightlife Back into town and I went to see it Sophie Ellis Bextor botch was playing at the NRJ Roadshow. It had finished and the stage was being taken down !! Then I walked back to hotel, passing the culture centre with the courtyard full of kids and the stage with people doing karaoke on. Near the hotel I got a hot dog, walked past a cafe Ive now decided is gay cos its all men. Came in hotel and eyed up a bloke that checked in just before me. Hoped hed knock on my door and give me some company. Thats what I need more than anything. Inter Rail cant give me that - oh well. |
