Title says it all!

Got to check something off my bucket list today. Today we toured the town of Winslow AZ. Made famous by the Eagles song 'Take it Easy'. It's amazing how much a song from the 70's can do for a town in the middle of nowhere Arizona. It was fun checking this town out. Both June and I got a tee shirt from "Standin' On The Corner" store.

After checking out the corner we walked over to the La Posada Hotel for some lunch. We had lunch in The Turquoise Room. I liked lunch there, June didn't. Oh well. After lunch we toured the La Posada Hotel. The hotel was built in 1930 and was the last of the Harvey railroad hotels. The hotel closed in 1956 and the Santa Fe Railroad turned it into office space. Santa Fe Railroad totally ruined it. Made it a tacky 60's office complete with fake ceilings, cubicles, put up walls, tore out the flagstone floors, closed off arched doorways just plain destroyed the warmth and charm of this old building. Santa Fe Railroad closed it's offices there in 1997 and sold it. It was bought and restored to it's former self. If you ever get to Winslow the La Posada Hotel is a must see. We could have spent a day touring this grand old hotel.

We stayed at Homolovi Ruins State Park for two nights for our visit to Winslow. The park is only about three miles away from downtown Winslow. It's a nice and quiet state park. There are Homolovi ruins there dating from 1300AD. Not really much to see as ruins go, but still interesting.
