Bye to Bergen. Have enjoyed our stay here, a very busy place in summer as the cruise ships bring lots of tourists. Can be up to five ships here at once. Today "Independence of the Seas" arrived at 11am, the largest ship to visit carrying 5500 passengers plus crew, and only comes once a year.
We started our day with a town tour at 9.30am for two hours. Had a very good local girl with lots of knowledge, and made the morning very interesting.
Originally we were to leave Bergen at 11.30am, but as we are a small group and only had to travel 80kms, Inger gave us more time around Bergen, departing at 2pm in a very nice new 20 seat Mercedes coach with driver Chris, and we can all spread out very comfortably!
Lovely scenery along the way, and we stopped at Steindalsfossen, a tourist spot with a large waterfall. Quite a climb up there, but being able to walk behind it made the effort worthwhile.
A check of the souvenir shop and an ice cream finished off the visit!
Only a 10 minute drive after that to the Thon Hotel Sandven in Norheimsund. We are on the third floor, and no lift, so pleased we took Inger's advice and packed a bag for just one night, leaving our bigger bags downstairs. The staff would have carried them up, but doubt they would bring them back down tomorrow! A very quaint hotel, but very comfortable. We think we may have the best pillows tonight since we left home! Amazing what small things amuse us!
Had a quick walk around the few shops here, then enjoyed the complimentary cup of tea in the lounge area near reception.
This is a very pretty area, especially the wharf area and the village nestled into the hillside.
A very nice buffet dinner all together tonight, a big variety of food.
The weather today has been good. A few light showers in Bergen as we walked around the town area, but nothing heavy. At this stage, the forecast for tomorrow where we are heading is predicting possible thunder and lightning!! Hopefully that won't be the case.
