I think I can get the journal caught up with this entry. I have written about the first two days of the family vacation with the White Water Rafting adventure and then the Cave of the Winds fun. Now it is time for the "Rest of the Story" as Paul Harvey used to say.
After the first two days it was easy with most of the excitement centered on attractions for grown-ups in this area. On Saturday we visited the Garden of the Gods and had luck on our side as we found a parking space in the north parking lot.
We had planned to do several other things this day but that didn't work out so we drove home and spent the afternoon at the resort where the kids played with Bob & Janet's grandkids.
On Sunday we drove to Bishop's Castle which is 55 miles from the resort. Jennifer enjoyed seeing this attraction and the kids sure had fun climbing around inside and outside the castle. I thought about stopping to buy everyone a hamburger on the way home but a glance in the mirror revealed that they were all soundly sleeping in the back seat.
Strong storms rolled through later in the afternoon with rain, hail, thunder and lightning. We didn't get a lot of severe weather at the resort and then kids played outdoors without any problem.
On Monday the family moved out of the cabin and spent that night with us in the RV. During the day however, the ladies went shopping while I took Colby and Kolton with me to see the tanks, artillery pieces, and a Cobra Helicopter, as well as a small museum at Ft Carson. I then took the boys for lunch at a pizza place called Mod Pizza and after we had eaten our fill we shopped for groceries as Colby and I had offered to prepare dinner for the ladies.
There was shrimp, steak, potatoes & onions cooked together, and a salad. Colby did most of the cooking and allowed me to simply supervise a bit. It was all quite good!
The kids played outdoors until the darkness and cool weather finally forced them to come inside.
This morning Marilyn & I shared our morning coffee outdoors and then Marilyn stayed home while I drove Jennifer and the kids to the airport in Denver.
I was back at our resort almost exactly four hours after we left.
We heard from Jen and their flight went great and they were back home right at the expected time.
