7-7 On Top of the World
We picked John and Sue up at a fairly reasonable hour for a drive to Pinedale. The drive was pretty, as usual around here, but our real reason for going was to visit the Mountain Man Museum. After a picnic lunch on the grounds we went inside, to spend a couple of hours going through the museum. It was really interesting, as it talked about the real mountain man as opposed to the highly romanticized version we see in movies and on TV. What a hard life our early settlers had! Really hard for me to imagine. A part of me wants to see our world the way it was then, and the other part of me is really glad for all the modern conveniences we have.
We got back with perfect timing to drive to Jackson Hole Resort so we could ride the gondola up for drinks and a light meal at Piste, the restaurant at the top of the ski area. There was another lift that went a bit higher, 10,000 feet, but this was good enough for me. Just we 4 rode our gondola up. Sue positioned us so we could get the best view, and it was fantastic (even though heights are not really my thing at all!) It was a fitting ending to a perfect day and a wonderful visit with dear friends.
