Shields RV Park

Well we didn't make it to A+ Motel and RV park. I suffered a bad case of 'senior moment' and forgot we had a stop before that. I forgot we planned to stop in Biloxi MS to visit Keesler AFB. I spent most of 1973 at Keesler AFB training for Automatic Tracking Radar Specialist/Technician - 303X3. A lot has changed on base in those last 45 years. Just about every building on the base has been replaced with new buildings. June and I drove around for about twenty minutes before I started to find things I remembered.

All of the Triangle area barracks are new. It doesn't look like anything when I was here. I've got a horrible memory but I seem to remember training for my old career field (303X3) was in a hanger with a building within that hanger. I think it was Cody Hall. All of those training hangers have been replaced with new multi story buildings. Damn I'm old...

Currently we are at Shields RV Park which is another military FamCamp. Shields is located on Gulfport Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, MS. There are actually two separate RV parks on this base. We are located in the newer section on the west side of the base.

This is a really nice FamCamp. Roads are paved, cement parking pads for the motorhome, full hookups and free WiFi throughout the campground. We are parked right next to one of the numerous WiFi antennas located throughout the park. The bathhouse is one of the nicest I've seen on any FamCamp. Bathhouse is a misnomer. There are four separate bathrooms. Each is private with toilet, sink area, hair dryer and shower. The Navy knows how to do FamCamps right!

We tried making some reservations when we left Thursday and found out just about any good rated campground was full through the 4th. We've decided to stay here until after the 4th of July. I normally have all our nightly stops made with reservations months before we leave. Since we didn't know exactly when we would leave I didn't get a chance to do that. Anyway we have a few days to check out the area before we hit the road again.
