New York Stock Exchange - Texas dignitaries visiting today

I arrived at my sister and brother-in-law's house in the Berkshires ( Massachusetts) last Monday. After some discussion it was decided to spend this weekend at their condo in Manhattan. Today we visited the birthplace of Teddy Roosevelt followed by a trip to Federal Hall.

The docent at the Roosevelt house was magnificent! My sister and I were mesmorized by his presentation of T.R.'s early years , married life, adventures, accomplishments, heartaches, hardships, and attitude in dealing with each one. I loved touring Sagamore Hill last year, Tom and I loved exploring the North Dakota badlands ( T.R. had a cabin there), and now I can add his birthplace to the list.

After we had a "bagel and shmear", we hopped on the subway to Wall Street to visit Federal Hall - the place where George Washington was inaugurated. The original building was demolished in 1812. The Greek Revival building behind the statue was built in 1842 as a Customs House. It houses the bible that Washington used at his swearing in ceremony. By the way, that's me in the pink blouse looking ever so small standing next to George in picture 6.

The New York Stock Exchange is right around the corner. No cars are allowed in this area - no wonder - the place was crawling with tourists (me included!)
