Happy Flag Day

Happy Flag Day! In the pursuit of happiness I headed through northern CA and zipped straight up the center of Oregon to ironically named Bend where I am staying the night. There were few bends in the road but perhaps the Deschutes River takes one nearby. I'm missing Quo Vadis, home on leave this trip, because last time through we stayed at nearby La Pine State Park, memorably beautiful. Tonight it's me and the truckers and bikers here at the motel. I had hoped to visit famously quaint downtown Bend this evening but couldn't get near the place, busier than anywhere in the Bay Area, bursting with hikers, bikers, campers, and tourists enjoying a night out.

The drive up I5 and US97 was smooth, if boring, sailing today but I enlivened it with an audio mystery set in the North Sea, a stop at the Olive Pit for CA olives for gathering family and friends, and the running of gauntlets of flags snapping in the breeze along the main thoroughfares of several small towns along the way. Cum Laude for patriotism in small town America. I couldn't put out my flag at home before I left because my porch light is broken and one is not suppose to fly the flag unlighted at night. Did you know that? Time to bone up on flag etiquette! Google it or ask a Scout.
