Homps

Eke woke up at 7am while Brian was still snoring away. She read her book until 8:30 am and then woke up Brian. After our shower we went downstairs for breakfast. We ate out in the garden. It was a good breakfast with yoghourt, fruit and muesli; several kinds of bread and croissants with cheese, meat and jam. I got my hot water with lemon – our hostess told me that she drinks this in the evening with ginger. I have to try that sometime! After breakfast packing. Our hosts are very generous and kind and allow us to store our luggage in the hallway on the main level and tell us that we can use that part of the house, have tea or coffee and use the bathroom all day until we go to meet our captain and other travel companion at 3 pm.

We walk along the canal to the lock and watch boats go through it in both directions. It is getting very sticky and humid. We go back to the house and sit in the garden because the front door is locked. When our hostess arrives back from some errands we get a bottle of water and walk the in the other direction. We are going to a lake and get there about 20 minutes later. There is a café and we enjoy a glass of sangria and share a charcuterie plate with different kinds of cheeses and meats. We enjoy it very much with some baguette and this is our lunch.

We walk back to the B&B to get our suitcases and go to meet our leader for the next week. Our hostess offers to drive us to the office meeting place so we don’t have to walk with our suitcases over a muddy path. Brian is very courteous and says we don’t need it but Eke accepts the offer gladly! So Brian walks and Eke and the suitcases are going in the car! We really appreciate our host and hostess beside it being a very nice house and very good breakfast.

We meet Ollie (our captain) and Jill (our travel companion from Australia who is our age). We walk over to the boat and get information regarding our activities and the boat. Then we unpack and store our stuff in the small cupboards in our bedroom. Another adventure is starting! We go for dinner to a restaurant close by where we all enjoy a very nice meal and a glass of wine. Tomorrow morning shopping for groceries and then we are on our way!

It is 10 pm and we are sitting on the deck of the boat having a cup of tea and Eke is writing. The weather has been really good – they are predicting rain for the next few days. We will see! Goodnight! Our first night on the boat!

NOTE: Posts over the next few days may be spotty because of limited WiFi bandwidth. Photos especially take a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time to upload.
