Marilyn & I enjoyed a ride through memory lane today. As we drove toward Arbela, Missouri and the Catfish Place I pointed out to Marilyn where I had ridden a bicycle 25 miles as part of the requirement to earn a merit badge as a Boy Scout. We spoke about the new highway and where it used to run. We have memories from our entire 56 year marriage centered here in northeast Missouri.
We arrived at the Catfish Place a few minutes after 11:00 and found five of our family members waiting for us. Two more arrived within a few more minutes and then two more and finally four more, so with Marilyn & I we had fifteen together for this little reunion. Our family has been gathering in this same spot for more than 45 years.
The main difference after those 45 years have passed is that so many of our aunts and uncles, cousins, siblings, spouses, and even a few of our children are no longer with us. It is customary for us to have a fish and a beer in honor of those family members who shared the good times here with us.
When the delicious food was finished off we gathered outdoors in the shade of several tall trees beside the pond, to chat and reminisce about the past.
It was about 2:00 PM when we all headed off in different directions. Marilyn & I took a leisurely drive through the countryside passing through small towns we had visited many years ago.
By the time we arrived back at the RV in Hannibal we felt the need to relax and enjoy the comfort of our recliners. It was a fine day in the company of people we love and that means for us that Life is Good.
