We had three options to get to Korce for our overnight stop but after re-living the GPS debacle a few days back where we were drawn onto seriously dangerous roads we decided on the longer route. As well we did for although it was a great road it did have a few safety issues so we could only imagine how bad the other options would have been. We were happy with our choice.
We enjoyed an interesting trip through a number of villages along the Albanian side of Lake Ohrid although winding our way through people, vehicles and animals at a street market at one point did seem odd given the road was a National route. Through traffic was definitely slowed down.
The police presence was very noticeable as were quite a number of Soviet era leftovers including abandoned industrial sites and other buildings. Some apartment blocks were still in use and looked terrible.
Korce was a much nicer town than we expected and quite big. The town centre was where the action was and at night there were live open-air stage performances by local singers.
Our loft apartment was great and our host was very helpful. It was a good stop over.
The next one was at Ohrid in Macedonia and we were looking forward to it.
