Seven new friends who are a bit standoffish if you get too...

This morning found me at the Gare d’Austerlitz at 6:30am waiting for a 7:30am train to Limoges. We departed and arrived on time and I enjoyed the scenic French countryside while I read Katharine Graham’s “Personal History.” Three hours and 20 minutes later I met Betty and Pierre on the platform. And 45 minutes later we were home in Les Pouleries. We had a wonderful lunch and enough wine that we all had short naps before we left the house to visit their friends Daniel and Marie-Helene who have a family farm about 20 minutes away.

I got a full tour of all of the houses and outbuildings and the restorations they are doing. It’s a beautiful place. Pierre and Daniel chatted away in French while Betty, Marie-Helene and I conversed in French, English and German. I don’t do the French part and my friend Betty doesn’t speak German, but Marie-Helene and I got on quite well speaking German. It was lots of fun.

Back home we had a light supper of soup made completely with vegetables from Betty and Pierre’s garden. And I took pictures of the darling feral cats who hang out on their property.

Tomorrow they have a full day planned for me. Stay tuned.
