Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

One of the best parts of the RV life is exploring new places with Marilyn and our friends. Today we planned to see an area we had not visited before. In previous visits to Kerrville I had heard tales of delicious apple cinnamon ice cream at a place called the Apple Store in the tiny, quaint little town of Medina in the Texas Hill Country.

Medina is known as the Apple Capitol of Texas and we decided to go exploring with Jesse & Ginger. The drive south from Kerrville on Highway 16 is very scenic, passing through the hills on a winding, twisting, up & down blacktop highway.

We arrived at the Apple Store in Medina and took some time to look around the gift shop, before passing into a small room with bakery items on display. The thick slabs of apple pie looked terrific as did the apple turnovers and strudel but we passed on by and stepped out the door which obviously once led you outdoors but now leads to an enclosed patio area where you may order sandwiches and other assorted goodies. I heartily recommend the SPJ burger and know my friends Denny, Eddie, Bob, and Jim would love it. Served on a jalapeno cheese bun and covered with exotic delicacies it was delicious. Needless to say we also enjoyed a cup of the soft serve cinnamon apple ice cream with a spoon full of homemade apple cinnamon syrup on top. Yummy!

I would highly suggest that you make this a destination for lunch when you visit the Kerrville area. Keep in mind that they are open for lunch only from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

From here we drove to another fun place to visit. I’ll tell you about that tomorrow. Stay tuned and remember that Life is Good!
