We were ready to go when Jim & Karen arrived to pick us up for the trip across the border to Mexico. There was a long line waiting to get into the parking lot on the USA side of the border when we arrived so we crossed over the highway and parked in the lot on that side. We then walked to the turnstiles, deposited our 50 cents each and headed to the bridge.
I love the sign greeting us which says “Welcome Home Winter Texans” and “God Bless the USA”. We walked across the bridge, joining the throngs of people heading into the quaint little Mexican town of Nuevo Progreso.
We were immediately seated in Poncho’s Bar and heard people greeting us. It was another table full of friends from Retama. Some good natured bantering went back and forth between the tables as the margaritas were served and the fun began. Laughter and conversation were constant as the live music entertained us.
It was nearly 12:00 noon when we made our way to Arturo’s restaurant for lunch. I ordered the bean soup for an appetizer and the coconut shrimp for the main course and both were excellent.
We walked a bit farther south to the Galleria for additional shopping before heading back north toward the border, and stopped at the pharmacy to pick up items for friends, so to our friends who asked for vanilla, we now have it.
We also checked out some beautiful sinks for our friends John & Julie. We’re going to try to get four of them safely back to Hannibal. We checked into shipping them but that wasn’t practical so we plan to take them back in our truck or car.
Our time here is growing short as we plan to leave just one month from today. Life is Good!
