Called Brians'Mum this morning as it was her 89th birthday- she sounded well and happy to hear from us. Left town and caught the autovia today as we are trying to catch up a little ground as we have been dawdling a bit and want to try and reach Portugal by the beginning of October. The coastline is becoming a little more rugged but providing amazing scenery for us- still good weather although cooler. A new highway is being built and we notice that the villages all seem to be expanding with new subdivisions and commercial centres. Arrived at another small village by the sea and spent the night in a pension- it looks like a large one floor apartment that has been split into rooms to let and is delighfully oldfashioned and with faded elegance of bygone days. During the day we stopped at a small place about 1 and had a full ¨'menu del dia¨'- menu of the day. It is usually 3 courses with wine or water for anything from 6 euros to 12 euros, and is good value for budget travellers. It is harder to get decent food in the evening unless its after 9ish, mostly its bar food such as tapas.
