Weather moving into surprise with rain. First we have seen in weeks

2-27-18 Show Low to Surprise, AZ

We got up to a cold breezy morning in Show Low. The temperatures were just below freezing. We were in no hurry to get on the road this morning since we didn’t have far to go today. We had a nice breakfast at the Days Inn cafe which was much better than the average “free” breakfast most hotels offer these days. After breakfast we got gas and coffee and were rolling by 10AM.

We took Arizona HWY 260 from Show Low to Payson then caught HWY 87 through the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest into the Phoenix basin and linking up to HWY 101 around the most of the city of Phoenix through Scottsdale, Glendale and finally into Surprise by 3PM. Temperatures were in the seventies and it was easier to breath. We went from 6,000 to just over 1,000 feet above sea level.

The first clouds we have seen in a long while showed up and we got some rain just as we were pulling into the hotel for the evening.

Weather reports promise a winter storm for tomorrow, especially in the higher elevations which are expected to get a inch or two of snow. Of course, we are headed in that direction to the Grand Canyon. Should be a fun time.

Total of 199 miles traveled today in about 5 hours.
