My favorite airplane of this museum. A rare Topolev TU.2 Russian bomber...

2-25-18 Another trip to El Paso

Our last full day in Las Cruces was spent getting ready to roll again (laundry), and going back to El Paso.

We drove into El Paso via the Transmountain Road that takes you through Franklin Mountains State Park dividing the town of El Paso. A pretty drive and much nicer than going through the center of town. El Paso is a much larger city than Las Cruces (which surprised us). There is a large Army base (Fort Bliss and Biggs Army Airfield) and a major Border Patrol presence.

We went to Horizon City to check out the Horizon City RC Flyers. Looks like a nice field, but didn’t see any one around.

There is a really nice museum in Santa Teresa, NM between El Paso and Las Cruces. The War Eagles Air and Auto Museum was much better than I expected. There is a good collection of airplanes and autos in a large well lit hangar. Well worth a look if you’re in the area.

We got back to Las Cruces in time to relax a bit, then go to dinner at Dion’s Pizza. The place is new and we gorged on the meat lovers special. Hey, we were hungry!

We were reflecting on what we learned in Las Cruces this week. We learned that it is a nice place, but we are not ready to sell everything and move here. Onwards!
