Denny & Jackie rode with us when we left at 9:30 this morning. We had looked forward to the Texas State Championship BBQ Cookoff for some time and that was our destination today.

We made a stop at the Don-Wes Flea Market to help my cousin with something and I took advantage of that time by picking up a jar of Orange Pecan Honey Butter which is fabulously delicious.

At the Fairgrounds we parked in a parking lot which was already half full. When we opened the car doors the aroma of BBQ and wood smoke made our mouths water. We paid the $5.00 entry fee and walked around. I stopped at the BBQ Team sponsored by State Farm Insurance to visit with Hector for a few minutes. His team is mostly family members and they do really well with a 1st in Ribs and 3rd in Chicken. I wished him luck before moving on.

We stopped at a Team called “Up in Smoke” where we were given a cup of Charro Beans which were very tasty indeed.

On a spur of the moment we decided to be judges in the BBQ Chicken judging at 12:00 noon. We had to wait for the people judging Charro Beans to leave and then we took a seat at one of the tables. This time we judged 12 different chicken entries. Because we ate a pickle slice, a cracker, and sipped some water between each BBQ sample, we were no longer hungry when we left and headed home. We did however stop at the Marble Slab Creamery for some ice cream, before heading on home.

Marilyn & I went for a walk even though neither of us was in a mood to walk much. Now it is time to relax. Life is Good!
