So how has 3 weeks gone by so quickly???
Monday January 29 we had a nice short ride up to Panama City area and pulled into Saint Andrews State Park. We took the “scenic route” to our camp site ( aka took a wrong turn ) but fortunately didn’t end up some place a 36 foot bus shouldn’t go. Another lesson learned ..... we had a nice level site facing the bay. And as all of our other stops have been, many new friendly neighbors.! We had large sandy beaches to enjoy, a lot of wildlife to enjoy, and the weather was great.
On February first, we departed Saint Andrews State Park and drove to Miramar Beach FL, and pulled into our home for February, Camp Gulf! This too is a nice park with full hook up. We got backed into our site on the first try. Yes! The park is long and narrow, with sites at the front of the park right on the beach!! So far we have been thankful to be at about the mid point of the park. Not sure how those on the beach deal with all the sand!
Many things going on here daily at the activities center. There was a big pot luck gathering for the super bowl. Saturday the 10th was another gathering for Valentines day, that also included a potluck meal. Two local artists provided live music.
We walked back to the RV in the rain and later that evening we found ourselves in a thunder storm that lasted about 8 hours, and the rain continued for about 40 hours total. Rain totals were about a foot of rain. Some portions of the park had huge “puddles”. A couple of the sites were vacated due to standing water, one site was under about two feet of standing water. Another lesson learned for things to think about when choosing a camp site. We were very fortunate to be on a higher site and did not experience any issues with high water. We did learn about about some issues with the rubber seal on the slide of our coach and are working on getting that fixed. My goodness, the power of Mother Nature!
Since then we have had some awesome weather and have enjoyed some of the local attractions and local beaches. The amount of white sand is beyond imagination, and the different colors of the ocean is amazing as well.
Our park neighbors again have been very friendly and we’ve enjoyed meeting a few couples and have enjoyed some activities with them outside the park. Got a chance to go to the movies where we saw Black Panther. Must add that the movie theaters here are nothing like back home. We sat about mid tier in the air and the screen and sound system actually felt as though the whole building shook during several of the scenes it was totally amazing.
Additionally, Saint Andrews State Park is located just outside Tyndall Air Force base, and Camp Gulf is just outside Eglin Air Force base so we have seen many many different types of jets fly by. Early one one morning Tom was able to see a pair of A-10’s cruise by just above the beach here at camp gulf. Made him think back to his days of working at GE in Burlington VT .... goodness that was 35 years ago
Lots of wonderful pictures to share, and to all our followers enjoy our ride and stay tuned lots more adventures to follow.
Take care and stay healthy
