360° view from the top of Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

The most south-westerly point of Australia is Cape Leeuwin, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet. We climbed the 176 steps to the top of its lighthouse and were rewarded with fabulous views of the cape and unusually calm seas. Later, we explored the Southern Forests with their huge trees (mainly Jarrah, Marri and Karri). Timber was one of the first major industries in the region. Some trees show the scars of forest fires, including one from only a few days earlier.
