Got framing ordered for Winnie's housewarming gift, and then later, dinner with Denise.

|Today Winnie and I were to meet at about quarter to four, to go to the cross stitch shop, to arrange to get the framing under way, for the cross stitch piece I am giving to her and Liao for their new home.
I had been calling her, but no reply, so I went down anyway to wait for her, and hope she showed up!!
While I was waiting, I saw a man with a tiny little baby puppy on a lead. The puppy was crying, and did not want to walk with him. He had to keep stopping for the little dog to rest, and eventually he did pick it up and walk off with him. I have to say that he did seem to be quite patient with the baby puppy. I would say he was only just taken from his mother, and much to young to need walking, particularly on a lead!
Winnie called me while I was waiting, to say that she and Iona had only just woken up, and they would set off straight away in a taxi. They did not take long to get here, and we decided that instead of catching a bus, we would just take the car the rest of the way!!
Iona was a little grumble bum. Apparently this is normal for her, when she has only just woken up! But it did not take long. Just took a little patience on Winnie's part, and she came good!
We chose a style of frame, and got a price. I need to wash it again, because not all the dye came out with my first washing, so I will do that, and take it back to send to the framing shop. The frame Winnie chose is lovely, totally understated, with a timber outer section, and a dual layer surround of a nice pale fawn, which will suit their house very well.
Winnie wanted to take me to a shop belonging to the father of one of her young students. Apparently an ice cream shop. By the time we headed off, and she told Iona we were going for ice cream, she had finished waking up, and could be convinced that if she walked, then there would be ice cream for her. So we walked down the street at Iona's pace, which suits me fine!!
The shop is a very Japanese looking little establishment, in the area where we used to go to Fallow Islet. We shared a piece of cheesecake, that was very good, and some other things, that had something like dumpling wrappers around, but I am not sure what the inside was. Both were delicious though. And then we had a big bowl of ice cream, very nicely presented.
We sat and chatted for a while, and then it was time to go. I was meeting Denise at the Lotus Restaurant, and Winnie needed to get back home. So we got a car, and she dropped me off in Kangle Lu.
I was expecting Gary and Qianqian to be joining us, but Gary was at home working on a paper he had to finish, and Qianqian had gone home from kindy with a friend. So it was nice to spend time only with Denise.
She tells me that her Mum will arrive in Zhaoqing while Carol and I are travelling up north, but she will be here until after I leave, so I will get to meet her. Denise has to get her stuff sorted out in her house, before her Mum arrives, so that is a good incentive for her!!
We ordered dinner, and as so often happens, we had too much, so I had food to take home with me. And this time, I insisted that it was my time to pay the bill. She actually let me too!! A win for me!
After we had eaten, we went to get her car, which she had parked just inside the gate of the sporting stadium. It was all lit up, so we went for a walk nearer to it, and we noticed that the steps leading up into the stadium were not blocked off, so we decided to go for a look. No-one stopped us, so we got to go right into the stadium.
All this renewal is in preparation for the Guangdong Games, to be held in August. Denise thinks the opening ceremony will be on August 8.
From there, we went to Qianqian's friends area to pick her up. The friend's family live in a huge complex. When we were driving in, the gate keeper told Denise not to be long, as there is no excess parking in there. As we drove through it became clear that what he said was correct. It was jam packed with cars.
She did not take long, and I waited in the car. Qianqian burst into the car, with a 'Hello foreign granny" She is a little darling, and it is so nice that she is not at all shy with me. I have to get Denise to interpret for me to speak to her, but she told me she had a good day at kindy, and when I asked if it was OK for me to come to her performance on Friday, she was very happy to say yes!!
Denise dropped me off at the front gate of the college, and promised to let me know what time I needed to be ready on Friday morning, for the end of term performance at the Special Needs Kindy. I feel like part of the family already!!
