December 15, 2017

Here we are in the midst of the Holiday happenings! We were delighted to fill the house to capacity at Thanksgiving with members of the Dowd clans from St. Louis and Pasadena. This wasn't just any gathering to eat turkey and watch football...oldest brother Jim and wife Kathy (St. Louis) chose to celebrate their 50ieth wedding anniversary in Ennis over pumpkin pie. We were delighted to capture two of their three children, one wife and two of their six grandchildren. Alas, the missing family unit lives in Australia, so they got a pass. (excused from the festivities, but sorely missed.) James and Evelyn (Pasadena) survived near hypothermia sledding on available patches of snow...something not seen in their neighborhood! And we had yet another celebration - nephew Jim's birthday. This recap is starting to sound like a society column in a small town newspaper. Even though Ennis is small, I promise I won't submit this info to the weekly paper!

Now we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of more family for the Christmas week. Melanie, Steve and Noah Glick will arrive from Chicago and the Morris gang (Jeffrey's nephew, wife and 2 sons) will arrive from Long Island. Snowmobiling is on the agenda...oh, and football and food of course! Our neighbors are kind enough to share some of their hunting results so the menu will include bison meatloaf and antelope. It's good, really!!

Speaking of football, the Georgia Dawgs will play the Oklahoma Sooners in the Rose Bowl on New Year's day. Let's see if you can solve this puzzle... Whatta ya get when there are Dawgs fans in Ennis. A Nephew in Pasadena who can get tickets to Rose Bowl because he's local. A place to stay in Pasadena with a gracious Dowd family. A non-stop flight from Bozeman to LAX??? This equals a trip for Jeffrey and Mary Ann to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl parade, game and visit with the Dowds. We scored!! Look for us at the game.

Hanukkah came early this year, but last Tues night we ate potato Latkes and thought of all our family and friends possibly doing the same thing. Christmas is coming very soon and these holidays give us a chance to reflect on how fortunate we are. Even though YOU might be far away, you are always in our thoughts. Keep lighting those candles and remembering how fortunate we all are to have fabulous families and friends, good health and food on our tables. And, that's exactly what Hank and Skeeter want in their stockings - food. So from our house to yours, we wish you a wonderful holiday season. May it bring you at least one 'wow' moment when you witness something so special you just say, "WOW."

Our best to you for a Happy Holiday season and special 2018. Mary Ann and Jeffrey
