Delhi to Sydney via Guangzhou China
Down to breakfast at the hotel this morning and Vikas, our travel rep, was there to meet us and have a chat to us about the trip this past week. Our lovely driver Sanju was here to take us to the hotel, having driven back to Delhi yesterday from Bikaner. He dropped us safely at the airport and we farewelled him again, then checked in and waited for flight to leave at about 12:30pm. Two problems then appeared to prevent us leaving on time. First there was very thick smog today with visibility down to less than 500 metres. The second problem was that there was runway maintenance and one runway was closed, so delaying all flights. We had a very short turn around time in Guangzhou, so when we left over 2½ hours late, we knew that we would probably miss our connection. After a five hour flight we arrived in Guangzhou, China and our flight to Sydney had already left, so the airline advised us that we could go to a hotel until the next day and get all of our meals. After a wait of 1½ hours, we received our transit visa for China and headed out to the accommodation desk where we had a choice of 10 hotels in the area. We chose a 4 star hotel and were quickly (21 mins) and efficiently transported there from the airport into the suburbs. We checked in without luggage as we left it to go on to Sydney the next day. We already had our boarding passes so we just had to get back to the airport at about 7:00pm. We were placed in a room on the 25th Floor, so up we went, ate a packed noodle meal the hotel had provided, had a bath then to bed at around 1:00am.
