We drove from Abel Tasman over to Westport so that we could drive along the coast line which is a very scenic route. We stopped a few places, like looking at the pancake rocks and the blow hole but the weather wasnt great so we pushed on down the coast, stopping for a supermarket dinner in Greymouth. We past a backpackers place in Hari Hari which looked ok and decided to stop for the night.
We set off early the next morning and headed down towards Queenstown. We stopped at the Franz Josef Glacier for a little walk up to the view point. This is the largest glacier in NZ. We also stopped at the Fox glacier, a little further on. Both were quite grey and nothing compared to the ones we had seen in South America. We drove past the high mountains of the southern Alps. These include Mnt. Cook and Mnt. Tasman. We got glimpses of these through the clouds. We drove over the Haast pass and then on to Wanaka where we had lunch down by the lake. It was beautiful as the sky was so clear.
