Nick and Sue's South American Adventure travel blog

We hired a taxi for the day to see the sights of the National Park of Chapada Dos Guimaraes', about 1 hour bus journey from Cuiaba. Our first stop was described in our guide book as the 'Stupendous Mirante de Geodesia' Unfortunately were were unable to see the stupendous views and the view back to Cuiaba due to the cloud. However, we did see some macaws and also the geographical centre point of South America!

We next drove along a dirt road, stopping to admire 2 owls which were next to their burrow on the side of the road. Our destination was the Cidad De Pedra. An area of fantastic rock formation which reminded us of the table top mountains in Venezuela. There were some small natural rock formations of archways and pillars. Nick was pleased that we also managed to spot some macaws at this site as well!

We were due to have lunch in a restaurant but it was 5 times the price of what we would normally pay and all they could offer vegetarians was a salad which we avoid due to concerns about the water. The restaurant was next to the Vew de Novia, an 86m waterfall which didn't look that much but the rock formation around it was spectacular. We embarked on a 3 hour walk with our guide to the other falls and pools in the park. Unfortunately our trip was interrupted by a thunderstorm - we got soaked! A wet but fun day!
