Nick and Sue's South American Adventure travel blog

Another early start - 5.15am for a boat trip.

We saw "new" wildlife of:

A giant River Otter

Howler Monkeys

An egret & cormorant colony

Flying Jaburu Stork & an Eating Jabaru Stork

Green Iguana

Yellow Rumpted Casique

We went Piranha fishing. Nick caught two and Sue caught three which was pleasing.

Our guide did a few 'tricks' with the animals. Piranhas were attached to a stick to make the caiman jump out the water which enabled us to have another good look at them. Also, fresh Piranhas were put into the water so that the Black Collared Hawks swooped down to the water it was unbelievable how quick the food was taken.

For our second morning trip we went horseriding. Nick's horse Giral (meaning table) was always eager to be at the front of the pack and Sue's horse called Pano Fino seemed to just follow the one in front - so that when the person in front cantored, so did Sue!!

We didn't see much new wildlife on the trip but it made a fun change. 2 hours was definitely enough!

In the afternoon, once 2 of our group had departed back to Cuiaba, we had another boat trip. We saw the following "new" wildlife:

Black backed mocking Thrush

White Necked Heron

Toco Toucan

Orange Necked Parrot

A Swarm of killer bees!

White barred water Tyrant (a very small bird)

9 + baby Giant River Otters & we smelt the odour of their home!

Warthold Chicken

Snail Kite

Barefaced Iis

Turquoise Parrots

Ailton kindly took us on another night safari.

We saw "new" wildlife of:

Tropical Screet Owl

Racoons

A Pregnant Tapir

A female Brown Tarantula

A Female Marsh deer
