We picked up our friends at 10:00 and headed off to show our friends many of the places which are important to us. We drove to Monroe City and showed Denny & Jackie the place where the company I worked for was located. We also drove past the home we lived in for over 15 years as well as the home we built on the golf course. We lived there for only six or seven years before selling that home because we had moved to Wichita, Kansas.
After driving around Monroe City, we headed out to the Cannon Dam and the Mark Twain Lake. We stopped at the Visitor’s Center and took a few pictures before going to the Ray Behrens Recreation area where we drove around the beautiful Corps of Engineers Campground.
It was a few minutes past 12:00 noon when we stopped at the Site where Steve & Cathy are staying to have them join us for lunch at a nice little restaurant in Perry, Missouri.
Steve was helping another camper who had trouble with the landing gear on his RV, and we waited a few minutes for Steve to join us.
After a few minutes we all drove to the town of Perry, found a parking space, and gathered at the “Hootenanny Café”, which was reputed to have some very tasty food.
The special of the day was meat loaf, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and Texas toast. Our choice of drinks (The sweet tea was wonderful) added to the enjoyment of the food, which lived up to the billing. One more thing I must mention is that they had about twenty different kinds of freshly baked, homemade pie.
I was delighted to see my favorite, lemon meringue pie and had to have a slice of that for dessert.
Marilyn ordered a slice to take home and Cathy joined me in the fun, only she enjoyed the coconut cream pie which we knew was delicious. Mike & Sandy had given us the gift of an entire coconut cream pie when they visited this establishment a few weeks ago.
