Yesterday was a cool, damp day. That being said, it was not a good day to do any hiking. We went thrifting. Checked out three different places, and ended up buying a serving spoon. Hey, not much room in the RV.

Today, we drove nearly 60 miles to the historic town of Cripple Creek, CO.(As the crow flies, it is only 25 miles from the Academy to Cripple Creek - but there is Pike's Peak in the way.) The town celebrates its annual Donkey Derby Days this weekend. And, for any of you that follow this blog, we have to have at least one parade with pics. Not wanting to disappoint our followers, pictures are attached.

The derby actually consists of local celebs running their donkeys a route down main street (actually Bennett street). No, they are not ridden. The celeb pushes, pulls, cajoles, sweet talks or whatever it takes to get the donkey to finish the race.

Cripple Creek is nothing more than a casino town with slot machines, Keno, bingo, poker and blackjack tables from one end of town to the other. Today was parade day, so there was a large turnout of vendors selling their wares under the blue tents. We did find a nice place to eat lunch.

Tomorrow we will visit a church somewhere in Colorado Springs.
