Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

Knowing that Mike & Sandy would be ready to go at the crack of 11:00 AM, we relaxed with our coffee. I then drove to the local Walmart where I fueled the car at $1.94 per gallon, then found an ATM to pick up some needed cash, and finally went shopping for groceries.

Marilyn & I put the groceries away and we noticed it was nearing 11:00 so we walked down the road a short distance to meet our friends, who had suggested that we take their car today.

After a short stop at the Post Office we drove directly to the Historic District where we gave a short tour to our friends. We then decided to take the official tour so we bought tickets and began at the Interpretive Center, and then toured the Huck Finn House (Tom Blankenship), the Mark Twain boyhood home, and then took a break for lunch.

After lunch at “Ole Planters” we toured the museum and then headed back to the Cave to tour the Mark Twain cave. I took our friends through the cave, giving them the history and relevance to the book published in 1876, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.

By this time it was time for a rest but Marilyn & I were soon on the road to Palmyra for another baseball game. We sat next to Steve, Jennifer, and Lauren in our lawn chairs, and then drove home once the game was over.

Mike & Sandy stopped by around 9:30 with a wonderful Coconut Cream Pie so of course we had to have a slice of that before going off to bed.

Thank you, Mike & Sandy. We’ll be up in plenty of time to wish you Bon Voyage tomorrow morning.
