June 16: La Linea/La Rogue/Alcaidesa

Accommodation: We’re just going to call this home for less than 20 hours “The Laundramat.” The two-bedroom apartment provided a way-station to sleep and do laundry—washer, no dryer as picture indicates.

Best part of the stayover was the perfect roof-top restaurant with a peak of Gibralter. Three tables and as Alison said, “what is this chef doing in this obscure place?” From the gratis beet juice appetizer (like thin gazpacho), to the fish salad (sliced, smoked white fish) to the butterflied sea bass, tuna steak and monkfish marinara, all was extraordinary. Of course we had to walk up hill (both ways) for 20 minutes to get to and from, but well worth the effort on a lovely evening.

Figured out in time that we needed to be at the ferry two hours before departure. Lovely, very helpful manager arranged for earlier taxi pick-up—and she directed the driver to take us by a beverage store on the way to the ferry as we’ll be entering Morocco which does not allow public alcohol sales.

Turns out there’s no need to be at the ferry two hours early. So sat and waited at the terminal catching up on journaling.
