The drier part of Oregon

The Dalles

We leave the RV park in Crescent Locks, drive across to Stevenson and this time actually go to the Interpretive Center, which has a bunch of stuff about Indians and a huge fish wheel which caught horrendous amounts of fish until it was outlawed—in Oregon in 1926 and in Washington in 1934.

After lunch in Rhonda, we continue along State Route 14, then cross back into Oregon and drive another nine miles of Highway 30, where no one else drives, until we reach The Dalles. There we go to the Discovery Museum and a special exhibit called "Cargo" about the stuff Lewis and Clark took along on the expedition. This is a first-rate, modern—with interactive exhibits and lots of movies, just all sorts of interesting things museum. We spent most of the afternoon there.
