|We were both very excited about arriving in a modern clean city and we have not been disappointed.
We booked our first dorm and shared bathroom hostel, however it was great fun and very private although getting to the 'pod' where we slept was a little challenging in our old age!
Our first evening we decided to walk to the Marina area and even the walk was beautiful. We passed cute little bars all very different in their appearance with colonial style shutters all painted in different colours. Next there were sky scrappers which are of course all very modern. The roads are busy with lovely cars. Everyone waits at the traffic lights until the green man says cross which is very orderly compared to every where we have visited so far as we no longer even take having a pavement to walk on for granted!
Finally we stumbled on the marina, The unmistakable Sands Marina bay taking up the skyline with a huge ship plonked on top of it.
Day two we visited Gardens by the Bay. Within this was a variety of things to see. Firstly we visited the Cloud Forest which was a huge dome with a tall water fall within it. You get the lift to the top and follow the winding path down, slightly scary if your not a fan of heights. Then we visited the Flower Dome which was filled with an array of beautiful flowers. To finish there was a Star Wars themed light show.
Our final day it rained all day so we decided to visit the heritage museum in China Town. This turned out to be so interesting. It had a variety of rooms to show how people used to live. We then visited the most sacred Buddhist temple in Singapore which was beautiful and atmospheric with monks taking prayer and a wonderful museum dedicated to the life of Buddha. We topped the day off with a visit to the 57th floor of the Marina Bay Sands which was absolutely breathtaking if a little expensive (drinks were over £10 each for a beer!!).
Singapore has been an amazing place to visit although if we stayed any longer we might have to remortgage our flat! Onto Malaysia next!
