Our trip from Dandridge,TN to Waynesville, NC covered 77 miles across the Smokies on I-40, including the extra 8 miles to give the Mothership her last drink until November! It was uneventful and after spending so much time in the mountains of the western USA the last few years, was a relatively easy drive. The Mothership was able to handle these hills much easier than the Rockies! We had delayed our trip one day due to the storm that came through yesterday, May 1, as we were in no hurry and couldn't see any reason to be on the road or trying to get situated in an RV park during a heavy downpour and high winds. So we stayed an extra day at Dandridge and hunkered down. We did have to put the satellite antenna down and put the slides in just to make sure we didn't damage them during one of the wind gusts which were substantial!
We are staying at the Trails End RV Park
which has a Waynesville address but really is much closer to Maggie Valley. It is a very nice, small park with a lot of long-term renters but also has many transient sites available. It's very quiet since it is a good ways from any highway or RR track. It is sheltered somewhat so, even though there is wind, it is restricted and doesn't bother as much. We have a back-in, with concrete patio, 50 amp full hookups, free WiFi (which is OK), good Verizon, and though we are under the trees a little, we have clean shot to the satellite. It only took about 20 minutes to get situated and all set up so that we are good for the next two months. It did get up to 72° at one point this afternoon. Hopefully it doesn't get too much above that during our stay!
I am posting this tonight, May 2, as we don't know when we will be making another posting. It will depend a lot and what we do and whether we think anyone else would be interested! Hopefully posting will be no more than two weeks apart.
