Happy hour at the end of a great day!

Domes and statues everywhere!

Our first full day in Rome! We had a leisurely morning and then hit the cobblestones around 11ish. Still got in over 15,000 steps! Beautiful and sunny day. More tourists than I expected this early in May; we found Campo de Fiori much more "commercialized" than our last visit - there were only 2 really wonderful flower vendors - the rest of the piazza was given over to a general market, we'll see who's there tomorrow! We ate dinner in tonight - cheeses, salume, vino bianco, Prosecco and a warm loaf of bread from the 24-hour forno (bakery) down the street. So far, we're finding life to be pretty good in Rome! ~ Lorraine

Great first day in Rome. Walked just down the block to Piazza Navona continued on to Campo di Fiori where we had a yummy lunch. I tried Cacio e Pepe, one of Rome's signature pastas. Yum. Then we visited St. Louis Chiesa de Frances (something) and saw 3 gorgeous Caraveggio paintings. Next we walked to the Pantheon and finally home...over 7100 steps.

Had a great happy hour provided by Lorraine, Rick and Peggy so wonderful at home dinner.

Now 10 o'clock and time for bed. Vatican tomorrow! Jan

There were some protests in Rome today. Not May Day but more an economic protests from what we were told. It was fairly noisy with continuous horn honking but we skirted the protests. Today we just wandered which is my favorite thing to do. I really don't have any particular destination or feeling that I "must see" anything. It is fun to go down some street, turn a corner and all of a sudden there is a spectacular view.
