Portugal, Spain and Morocco 2017 travel blog

Sunday 9th April 2017 Lisbon to Aveiro

2 hours to get the rental car that we had booked months ago.

Never mind we are on holidays and we are retired. We are supplied a Garmin as the car does not have a gps. Fun (?) getting used to a new system but it got us to where we wanted to go. First Obidos with an incredible wall to walk around the old city on. Lots of wind and no barrier on one side so felt a bit exposed in the high up parts. Then to Lazare and coffee and fish cakes for lunch. The little cafe was "home grown". The barristers 1 or 2 year old nephew was there entertaining all with his antics crawling around and climbing on stuff. The card playing locals in the corner and the toilet with no windows or light and a door that did not lock. Fun holding the door open enough to to see, but not expose myself unduly. Onto to the very very amazing monetary at Alcobaca. Stunning. Huge. Well preserved. Old. Amazing, oh I said that already. Then a 150 km drive to Aveiro where we stay the night. Putting the car into a car park required major effort and dexterity from me, but it got done. Charming city with canals to explore. Lovely squid for dinner. Eating with the locals always involves a TV with soccer on in the background. A source of life for Portuguese.
