Not too far from Benson is Tombstone. Of course we had to check it out. We stopped at Boot Hill to see the cemetery where early residents are buried as well as those who died during the gunfight at the OK Corral. It was interesting. A little tourist trappy but interesting.
The town of Tombstone was touristy too. Lots of shops to buy souvenirs or get something to eat and drink. But it looks like the movies. There were some actors there who were getting ready to do a re-enactment of the OK Corral. I took their picture and it almost looks like the movie “Tombstone”. Until you see them talking to tourists in t-shirts and shorts! We ate lunch at Big Nose Kate’s Saloon. She was the girlfriend of Doc Holliday. Just before the OK Corral shootout, the Clantons’ and McLeary’s stayed at this place.
Bisbee is another cool town, closer to the Mexican border. We had to go for a ride here since I have been reading a series of books by the author J. A. Jance. This series is about a woman sheriff in Cochise County Arizona. This includes the town where she lives and works (Bisbee) and Tombstone, and even dealings with the next county (Pima) which includes Tombstone. This is a great series of books. But it is even better since I can see the areas where these stories took place. When I see a road sign I can tell Mike that some lady died on a cactus on that road, or there was a crazy shooter in that area. It kind of brings the stories to life. They are a great series. I highly recommend them.
