We are up at 0540, along with a number of others that are anxious to get an early start to their Camino. We are out the door by 0600, and stop at the bakery which has just opened for the day. We have a couple treats each along with some black coffee, and the we are off! The first 6 kms are on pavement. Mostly rolling hills, and not too bad. The next 9 kms, are all on a dirt path. This is where the fun begins today. It's mostly straight uphill, and a challenge, but I am managing fine. The next, and last 10 kms of the day are all downhill-a very steep, hard packed earth with rocks, downhill. My feet are tired, my left ankle is bothering me, my shoulders hurt. I'm just a ball of hurt. We were told that this hike today was 7 hours. Na. try 10! When we get to the hostel, we have to stand in line for an hour to get our beds. We are finally checked in at 1800. We had dinner at 1900, which was very good. It comprised of fish, fries, pasta, ice cream, soup, and a glass of wine, and of course water. $10 euro. Breakfast will be at 0700. Hitting the sack, I am whipped.
As a reminder, my pack was an extra 20 pounds heavier. I wasn't expecting that, nor did I train for that.
