Dec 25, 2016
|This journal entry is being posted later than normal, simply because we were so busy yesterday. However, it is all about our Christmas Day and will be dated Dec 25, 2016.
Marilyn & I took our morning coffee over to the Coach house, turned on the fireplace but left the heater portion off because the morning temperature was in the 70’s.
We had Christmas music playing, and sipped our coffee as we opened our gifts. We enjoyed the gifts very much but felt a bit of nostalgia as we were so far away from our family.
We did speak with them on the phone and that sort of “made our day”.
Our friends, Mike & Marian, were also away from family this Christmas and invited us for Christmas dinner at their beautiful home.
Marilyn and Marian fixed the side dishes and dessert while Mike and I grilled large Rib Eye Steaks on the grill here at our place.
Things were timed pretty well as Mike and I srrived with the steaks, our lovely brides were finishing up with the remainder of the meal.
The Steaks with Mushrooms and Bleu Cheese toppings, Potato Casserole, Roasted Brussel Sprouts, Salad, and Hot Rolls, were enjoyed immensely with a glass of wine, and it took some time after dinner before we felt hungry enough for Dessert.
The Pecan Pie was delicious as was the Peach Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream.
Later as we prepared to play a hotly contested game of Mexican Train, Mike fixed a delicious drink for each of us, called “Kiss of the Angel”. You may translate it into Spanish if you wish to know the real name of this drink.
My friends like to tease me about going to bed earlier than most, so I’ll describe the ending of our day yesterday in this manner:
“It was in the wee hours of the evening before we returned home”
Well, it was after dark and I was in bed by 9:30.
A wonderful day spent in the company of good friends, with delicious food, fun and laughter, is not a bad way to spend Christmas when you can’t be with family.
Life is Good!
