Mikail Davenport Presenting 'Camper of the Year' Award to Ruth Stehling

Brrr! A strong cold front blew in around midnight last night and it has been cold and windy all day today. That made getting set up at the RV park very uncomfortable. We just stayed indoors in the clubroom all the time. To make matters worse, when we first arrived, we discovered that the clubhouse restrooms were all locked. That made us have to trek to our “outhouses” until finally someone came and unlocked one of the restrooms.

We won’t be coming to this park again because the new owners don’t want to host rallies; they want to cater to the winter Texans. We can’t blame them for that but it makes us have to search for another park. Since fewer parks are hosting rallies nowadays our choices are much more limited.

We didn’t have our usual potluck dinner tonight; instead, we’ll do it tomorrow night because it is our Christmas feast. Have no fear, there will be more than enough food. Five members had to cancel their reservations for various reasons and we really miss them.

After dinner we played table games. I learned a new one, 2500 and actually won the first time. You know what “they” say about beginner’s luck.

This morning I went to Camping World with several others. I bought a set of four good microwave plates. I had had to toss all my old ones and needed replacements.

This afternoon at our business meeting I was installed as 2017 club secretary. Other 2017 officers are Mikail Davenport as president, Donette Harpole as vice president and Ruth Stehling as treasurer. We also honored Ruth as Camper of the Year; she certainly deserved it.

We had a bountiful feast tonight and were happy to have as guests Bruce Woodall’s daughter and son-in-law. They live on a ranch at Bulverde (south of San Antonio).

After dinner we had a drawing for a set of small tools designed for women. Then we had our gift exchange. I received two white LED candles shaped like pine cones, which use a pair of AAA batteries. They look very nice, but one of them was missing a metal piece and spring for one of the batteries.

It was not so cold this morning and the wind was very light, so it felt much more comfortable that when we first arrived at the RV park.

This morning Ruth Stehling cooked pancakes and sausages for everyone. That little German Oma knows how to cook and loves doing it.

After breakfast Larry Roming cut a small piece of metal and trimmed a spring that I had taken from an old ballpoint pen to put into the battery compartment of the incomplete candle. It worked perfectly! He has earned the title of Mr. Fixit.
