Our stays were a mixed bag. Besides 67 days at private campgrounds we stayed:
• 47 days - Elk’s Lodges
• 8 days - State Parks
• 14 days - City or County Parks
• 41 days - Federal (COE) Parks
• 10 days - Fairgrounds
• 6 days - Dry camping
• 3 days - Casino camping
• 1 day – Escapee Park
Our daily average campground cost was $17.49
Our total diesel fuel used was 684 gallons. Maximum diesel price was $2.89; Minimum diesel price was $1.79; Average diesel price was $2.09. We averaged 10.8 mpg while towing. Our highest mpg towing was 13.9 and the lowest mpg was 8.3.
We traveled an average of 129 miles per day. Our longest driving day was 289 miles because the campground we planned to stay at was a dump and we had to move on. Our shortest day was 16 miles from downtown Gunnison, Colorado to nearby Curecanti National Recreational Area.
First time experiences. We had a number of first time experiences during our trip. Here are some of our favorites:
Albuquerque, New Mexico Flamenco Show at the National Hispanic Cultural Center; Pella, Iowa Tulip Festival; Cycling the High Trestle Trail in Madrid, Iowa; Sedalia, Missouri Ragtime Festival; Columbia, Missouri classical music festival; Cycling sections of the Katy Trail in Missouri which is the longest rails-to-trail path in the U.S.; Independence, Missouri visit to the Truman Presidential Library; Cycling the Mississippi River Trail near Davenport, Iowa; Westcliffe, Colorado bluegrass festival; Cycling the Mineral Belt Trail in Leadville, Colorado; Panaca, Nevada Dutch Oven Cook-off.
