We arrived in Istanbul after a good flight from Dubrovnik ... no problems and our first impression was how helpful and friendly people were.

Istanbul is the only city in the world that sits on two continents. It straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. When you walk around the old city, the architecture, people and food reflects cultural influences of the many empires that once ruled here. Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Venetians, Ottoman, Turkish.

It is a city that hits all your senses. The prayers playing over huge loud speakers 5 times a day ... smells coming from kebab stalls, fruit stands and chestnut carts ... the bright colours of the carpets, textiles, spices, glassware ... people pausing to sip tea and smoke the hookah in small road side cafes. The people will all try to sell you something but they do so with great hospitality and humour.

We stayed at a great hotel in the Sultanahmet district, Muyan Suites ... a perfect location that allows you to walk to most areas and the staff were incredible. So helpful and genuinely interested in making sure our stay in Istanbul was the greatest it could be. (Tuba lent us her metro pass, Tanner bringing beer from the back room ... breakfast to our room, tips on what to do and where to go ... nice chats in the evening ... it was great!)
