Monument Valley

Sep 28, 2016: Today we spent a leisure day of riding and looking at the scenery of Utah for the last time. We were planning on going to Mesa Verde but looking at maps we decided to go to a place called Hovenweep NM. We had been to Mesa Verde before so thought this would be something different and am glad we did. I was amazed at the buildings that were built in the 1200 hundreds and how they built them that some of the remains are still here even being built on the sides of banks around the canyon. We saw wild horses on public lands and decided to drive to Monument Valley. While it was more rocks they were more of a deep red much like we saw around St. George, UT. One spot in the road looked much like the place where Forrest Gump quit running. We arrived in Cortez this evening and are going to Durango (which for some reason reminds me of gas caps and wiper blades, Tom) and then head north to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. We are watching the weather in northern Colorado as it is calling for rain and I am wondering about snow in higher elevations. One of the things I really like about this country here is the abundance of blue sky.
