Drove off to the border of Hungary, driving along country lanes through acres of terraced grapevines- definitely a wine area. Stopped briefly at Jerusalem which is the centre of the wine area. Reached the border and after getting our passports stamped headed into the Hungarian countryside towards Lake balaton. It was sad to leave Slovenia as we loved every minute- the hospitality, food and wine, nice accommodation and fantastic scenery, plus good value for money.
We noticed the change immediately in the Hungarian countryside- flat plains and also poorer looking houses. Arrived at Keszethely where we again stopped at the info centre for maps etc. Drove on until we reached Balatongyorok where we stopped for a coffee break, in which we were eaten alive by giant mozzies and it thundered and pelted with rain. Found nice rooms where there was a restaurant attached which meant we didnt need to drive anywhere, and had goose liver again, and hey, mushroom soup!
Spent another day in this area but eventually the mozzies won and we headed for Budapest.
