Julie and Eric visit Central France travel blog

After breakfast (crepes and the most amazing pain au chocolat) we said au revoir to the maison du moulin des roches. It took three hours and 28 euro (the autoroute is expensive)to drive from chablis to amboise.

We stopped in blois for lunch and to see the chateau but had a lot of trouble finding a place to park. By the time we did park and eat (lunch, at a cafe, and yes i had a salad) we decided we would just keep driving. We made it to amboise just before 3:30 and had our second driving ridiculousness of the day: there was only one way into the hotel's miniscule courtyard and we had to drive almost completely around the town to access it via one way streets. Fortunately the hotel itself was lovely and much better than i was expecting -- just two blocks from all the action and our room was spacious.

We asked the concierge to suggest and book dinner and had a predinner cocktail at a bar on the "golden isle" halfway across the loire. Sitting there we could hear the river, see the water, the chateau, the hotel, and the view and we fely very lucky to be on this trip.
