We had a long day of bus rides yesterday, one from Nafplion to Athens and another from Athens to Delphi. We finally arrived in Delphi around 6:00. Our hotel owner was super nice and let us know the archeological site was open until 8:00, which I hadn't realized so we decided to go see the museum last night and the Temple of Athena and then do the main archeological site this morning. The museum had a lot of the items they have dug up from the site of Delphi. Delphi, in ancient times, was considered the center of the world. Zeus sent two eagles flying in opposite directions and when they reunited, a rock was dropped from the skies and this was considered the center of the world. It was a religious center and where Greeks would come from all over to see the Oracle to help in any important decisions that needed to be made. This area of Greece is in the mountains and is just absolutely beautiful. The site feels mystic. There were many "treasuries", which were basically small places of worship here. Each one represented a different geographical area of Greece. When visitors came, they would often go worship in the one from their area. The Temple of Apollo is where the Oracle could be found. There is also a cool amphitheater here. This is considered the best archeological site in Greece. We weren't here very long as we left by 11:00 this morning but we saw what we needed to. It really is a beautiful place and we were all glad that we were able to visit it.
