Canon City is the home of a Colorado Territorial Prison (a medium security institution) and a museum of CO prisons. It was housed in one of the old cell blocks, and each cell displayed some element of prison life – what a typical cell looked like, shackles used, punishment methods, items created by prisoners. One of the more interesting items was a table top made of weapons confiscated from inmates. It was almost eerie to step into a cell - even though they did not have doors, you did not want to hear something closing behind you. But the creepiest exhibit was the gas chamber in an outdoor display all its own.
