the Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island

We had the very best day ever yesterday at Mackinac Island. What a beautiful area. The old heritage homes are kept immaculate and many of them are 200 or more years old and have been restored to nearly the original appearance. the gardens and flower boxes along the fences and the porches are so nice that I had to take lots of pics so I will have some ideas for next summer. The ferry ride over was great. We sat outside and it was a bit cold but it went under the mackinaw bridge so that was exciting for me. We walked up to the Grand Hotel. It has the longest patio in the world. I will add a pic if I have space. We also had a nice whitefish lunch at the Pink Pony restaurant which is in the Chippewa Hotel.Only bikes and horses are allowed on the island so you hear clip clop and smell them too. And thousand of bikes parked everywhere. the ride back was rough and I am glad that we stayed in the enclosed part of the boat for that. So then we crossed the long bridge, 5 miles and Daniel phoned me just as we were starting over and we talked all the way to the off ramp. We stayed at Castle Rock Campground and wouldn't you know it...a Casino nearby. We have renamed this adventure the Casino Tour 2016. Today we only drove 275 km as we decided to stop at every Casino along the way. Four of them and we still are pretty close to even. I had to stop in Christmas, Michigan to get something for Diane Card. She is a Christmas fiend so I called her to tell her that there are only 187 days til the big day. Now we are in Marquette Michigan, camped along a small lake at the City park. We are only 1 km from Lake Superior. Tomorrow we head towards Duluth and no Casinos. We had a nice sunny day but it was only 70 degrees. good for the truck.
