Town Square

Washing pool

View from our hotel room

Left the seaside today and headed North to a place called Chinchon. This is only 50km south of Madrid and sets us up to return the leased car tomorrow and then head to the airport for our flights to Bangkok.

Chinchon itself is quite interesting. The Plaza Mayor is roughly circular, surrounded by 15th-17th century galleried houses and cafés. Our hotel for the night is only 50m from the square. We first visited the visitors centre which has a large pool next to it that was originally used for clothes washing. The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is nearby and was built in the 15th and 16th centuries and contains an early work by Goya depicting the Assumption of the Virgin.

Very hot and humid today and walking around was quite uncomfortable - brought back memories of Cambodia at the start of our trip. Found a nice cool spot for an early dinner. Well early for Spain, as most places don't open for dinner until 8pm.
