160529 (Ron Writing) We got back from our vacation to Kauai over two weeks ago and our original plan was to be on the road traveling soon after that. But like all our plans they are subject to change. Elena decided she really wanted to go back to Kauai to attend the Celebration of Life service for her late uncle so she flew back there this past Thursday. The service was yesterday. I decided to stay here in Garden Grove this time – one of the few times we’ve been apart since we started full-time RVing and the first time we’ve been apart on our anniversary which was May 27th. We’ll celebrate that after she gets back later this week.

When we spoke on the phone last night I could tell she was really glad she decided to make this trip. There are some cousins there that didn’t attend the recent wedding – cousins she hasn’t seen in many years. Tomorrow she plans to fly to Oahu to visit another cousin and very good friend who just had surgery last week and also visit her two brothers who live on that island.

She left me with a refrigerator full of food so I’m doing fine and finding some time to make a little progress on my to-do list.

Over the past couple weeks we’ve also had time to get together for lunch with our friends and former neighbors Jacque and Tricia. It’s always good to get together with them to catch up on what’s going on in their lives and in our old neighborhood. We also got together with friends Norm and Wendy again for breakfast.

Last weekend my long time friends Bob & Linda from Syracuse, NY were in town to attend the graduation ceremony of their granddaughter from Chapman University. I first met Bob when I went to work for General Electric Company in Syracuse in the mid 1970’s. Bob and I worked in the same department on the same project. Then it turned out we both worshiped at the same church too and even though I left Syracuse about 3 years later we’ve kept in touch and remained friends all these years. They attended church and fellowship with us last Sunday and then Monday we got together for lunch and a nice long visit.

Elena also had another get-together with some of her girl friends from working years. This was a smaller group of her close friends so they would have more time to visit.

This weekend is Garden Grove’s annual Strawberry Festival. Yesterday they had the parade and I was able to walk a couple blocks down the street from where we’re staying to watch it. It’s not the Rose Parade but it ranks up there as one of the better “small town parades” I’ve seen. There weren’t many floats but there were lots of bands and horses.

In between all these activities we’ve enjoyed our many get-togethers with our friend Barbara. Lots of meals together and lots of games of Skip-Bo!

I’m really doing well with the new medication I started taking about 2 months ago. There were big improvements in my blood test numbers after the first month on the drug and now again after two months on it. This drug was just approved last year – in fact it received its FDA approval on my birthday last November!

Hopefully we’ll be back on the road traveling and exploring real soon.
