Dodge City, Kansas

This morning Jim made some delicious French toast on the grill. Then we went to see Boot Hill and the old town of Dodge City, Kansas. We went into replicas of the original Dodge City, and saw a brief informative film about how it was settled. Among other things, were the Long Branch Saloon, Tonsorial Parlor, Undertaker, Blacksmith Shop, School, Church, Printshop, Jail, gambling room, and old guns. It was definitely worth the stop.

Up until today, we made awesome time as there was little wind. Today was a different story. The RV is not good in the wind, and was it ever windy in places. As we left Dodge City, Jim was driving around 50 in a 70. There was lots of traffic so he kept pulling over to let the big trucks go by. Luckily it let up a little at times, so we still did ok overall for time. It was pretty much windy all day though. Along the way, we passed the Tyson plant, and went through Syracuse. In western Kansas, the roads were like a rollercoaster, going up and down, up and down. They remained pretty straight, however. It was an oddity to see a solid yellow, no passing lane.

We're now on Mountain time, so we're 2 hours, behind home time.

Some wild animal crossed in front of us. Maybe a coy dog. We noticed that we went across the Arkansas River 4 times. Must wind a lot.

Colorado was still flat at first, and the wind picked up. The roads had big (6 foot or so) ditches and little shoulder.

As we got further into Colorado, the elevation started to go up and up. Granada was 3400+ feet. LaJunta is 4066 and Pueblo City was 4695. Route 25N to Colorado Springs was 75 mph.

We arrived in Colorado Springs around 4:20 pm. Garden of God RV park is quite big with nice sites and located near Pike's Peak.
